Real Estate Tax

 

Ken represents numerous commercial and residential property owners throughout the     State of Ohio.  He has been highly successful in challenging real estate tax valuations through the County Boards of Revision and the Ohio Board of Tax Appeals, saving clients hundreds of thousands of dollars.

 

The firm has helped clients lower their taxes on various types of real estate, including:

Eminent Domain

 

Ken served as an Assistant Attorney General from 1981 through 1990, representing the Ohio Department of Transportation in land appropriation cases.  Ken also served as co-counsel for the City of Cleveland in eminent  domain proceedings which involved the appropriation of the IX Center for future expansion of Cleveland Hopkins         International Airport. 

 

In 2012, Ken successfully represented Property Owners in Geauga County Probate Court where a jury awarded the Property Owners $174,000.00.  The final offer to the Property Owners by First Energy was $16,000.00.

Land Use and Zoning

 

Ken has participated in many successful rezoning cases representing property owners, including the former Front Row Theater site in Highland Heights in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court and Boulder Creek Golf Course in Streetsboro, Ohio, in the United States District Court.

 

Ken and Dennis have also provided legal services in numerous real estate purchase

and sale transactions, including the review and analysis of environmental audits.


 

Municipal Law

 

Ken served as Law Director for the City of Maple Heights from 1999 to 2005.  From 1991 through 1998, Ken was Assistant Law Director for the City of  Maple Heights and principal legal advisor to the City Board of Zoning Appeals and Planning Commission from 1991 through 1998.

 

Ken also served as Law Director for the City of University Heights from 1997 to 2009, and from 2010 to 2012.

 

Dennis served as Acting Law Director for the City of University Heights from December, 2009 through July, 2010.

 

Ken has served as Law Director for the City of Brunswick since 2003.  Brunswick is the largest municipality in Medina County.   Ken supervises a staff of four and has assisted the City with all legal issues including the development of Brunswick Town Center, a mixed use project, and all annexation issues with Brunswick Hills Township.

 

From 2006 to 2008, Ken served as Solicitor for the Village of Cuyahoga Heights.
